Volunteers

We welcome members of our school community in to school to support our children in a volunteering capacity. Some people come to gain experience with a view to becoming teachers or teaching assistants. Others want to come to give something back to the community. We very much appreciate the volunteers we receive and the time they give.

If you are considering offering your valuable time to support our children please read the policy which you can find at the bottom of this page.

Becoming a volunteer at Abbey Lane

If you are interested in volunteering to work at Abbey Lane Primary School as a Learning Support Assistant or to support with 1:1 reading, there is a clear process you must follow in order to start.

You will need to download and read the Abbey Lane Volunteer Pack that outlines expectations set by the Local Authority in terms of your role as a volunteer. This document needs to be signed and returned to confirm that it has been read and understood.

Having read and signed the Volunteer Pack, you will then need to complete our Volunteer application form that acts as a record of your contact details.  As part of this process, we request 2 references from people that have known you in an employment capacity. If this is not possible, then you can obtain character references from people that have known you for a period of 5 years or more.

Please also note that, as a volunteer at Abbey Lane Primary School, you will not be placed in a class with children that you are related to. This is in line with best practice and safeguarding guidelines.

Volunteers may be subject to a DBS application to ensure they are safe to work with children.
