Pupil Leadership
Pupil Leadership
House Captains
Our House Captains are elected by the children within their house team. They are visible by their coloured sweatshirts and have a variety of roles to carry out. They show visitors around our school, collect and count team points. They are roles models to our younger pupils and offer support and guidance
Peer mediators
Our Peer Mediators undergo a series of training sessions before they receive their yellow sweatshirts. The training enables them to support other children to solve their problems by talking them through. Sometimes talking to another child is easier than talking to an adult. Our Peer Mediators care about the children they support and respect their peers. They listen and communicate well with each other and are committed and hard working.
Playground leaders
Pupils in Y6 have the opportunity to be trained as a Playground Leaders. They run activities and games for pupils from at lunchtime.
Reading ambassadors
We have a very keen group of librarians who run the KS2 libraries at lunchtime. They are trained to sort and organise new books, advise children on new entries to the library and
School council
At Abbey Lane Primary, the views and ideas of the pupils are valued. Every September we have School Council elections in KS2. All pupils are invited to stand for election. Those taking part are asked to prepare a short speech about why they should be elected and the changes they would like to make to the school. Our School Council meets regularly to discuss important issues which effect the school.
Science Ambassadors
At Abbey Lane, our Science Ambassadors are empowered to share their enthusiasm for science throughout the school. They develop their communication skills, so that they can inspire others and share their love of science. They regularly deliver hands-on experiments and communicate these to a wide variety of age groups within school.
